Starbucks Redesign
Interaction Design 1 | Summer 2023

This was a collaborative group project with Brenna Prem and Lexi Davis.
Many people are familiar with the app that accompanies the experience users have at a Starbucks. While it seems to have all necessary components for an app, how well does it function for actual users? As designers, one of the core challenges we encountered was addressing a pivotal question: How can we improve the Starbucks app experience to encourage users to engage more frequently with the platform?
Original App
Current Information Architecture
After analyzing the current IA and overall app, we came up with 4 objectives:
1. Create an easier flow when ordering a drink
2. Make your stars
journey more fun and easier to learn how to earn more stars
3.
Condense all cards (gift cards, credit cards, etc.) into one section
4. New Learn tab and Promos tab

Benchmarking
Benchmarking allowed us to see what possible competitors were doing and allowed us to see what naturally was a better user experience. We also got examples of what not to do if we wanted to create a welcoming environment for our users.
Card Sorting
By using this analysis method, we were able to see how our ideas were translating to other users.
Key Takeaways:
- Review wording on sections, how can we make it easier for users?
- Remove redundant unnecessary information that appears on every page (too cluttered)
-Review hierarchy and cut down on pages

Updated Style Guide
Improved Features
We streamlined key interactions such as making the ordering process more intuitive while also introducing a more personalized app for each unique user. These changes not only enhanced the overall experience but also deepened user loyalty by making each interaction more rewarding.
